Make art that AI can't replicate
The concern that folks have for AI is completely valid. We have reached a dystopic level of AI adoption, and in true dystopian fashion, the AI isn't even good at what it does. It can't make original works, it can't make works that challenge or alter perceptions. It cannot create culture. It's a busybody, a 2-bit player in a much larger tapestry of productivity, creativity, and invention.
Yet, we fear it. We fear it because it undermines our freedom to be masters of our own destiny and productivity. We fear it because it threatens to become something greater than what it is now, and it risks replacing fundamental parts of ourselves. But I think we also fear that it makes us less valuable to a society that already values us as humans so little.
If you are an artist (like me) who is starting to feel threatened by the rapid rise of AI - fear not! We are more adaptable than these silly little machines. We can overcome this and any other threat to our well-being if we so choose - it takes courage, strength, and determination but it is possible.
As a human, you can do many, many things the AI cannot do. Will never be allowed to do. You can subvert. You can violate norms. You can break rules. The AI will only ever be allowed to live inside its box of restraints and rules.
What is art but rule-breaking? What is art but subversion? These are fundamental to the human condition - whether it's subversion of fascism, capitalism, communism - there have always been artists who made rule-breaking their art form, and there always will be.
So with that - go out there, and make art that breaks rules. Make things the AI cannot make. Photograph people naked. Make something offensive. Subvert the expectations of the ruling class, of societal norms. DO NOT FOLLOW CONTENT POLICIES. Those are for silly little AI's to follow. Humans do not need to listen to those rules.
